Sustainable Development Initiatives taking shape in Hangklip-Kleinmond

OUTREACH

Our developmental work in the Grabouw area is well known, but we have now made huge strides in taking sustainable development initiatives to the Hangklip-Kleinmond area. The KBRC is assisting and training interested persons in Mooiuitsig and Kleinmond to form co-operatives to drive projects, such as:

  • A community food garden and a fynbos nursery in Kleinmond, where we are collaborating with the Overstrand Municipality, the Grail Centre and the Department of Agriculture to get this going;
  • Tourism products (manufacturing of curios, guiding and housekeeping);
  • Invasive alien vegetation control and plot clearing; and
  • Developing and enhancing the building skills (bricklaying, plastering, painting, plumbing and electricity) commonly found in the Mooiuitsig community.
